I miss the gun thread, but I'm not too sad about nobody posting in that, as guns are not my true specialization anyways. ;D I indeed can find use in almost any type of weapon, and can use almost any to its full potential (aside from various missile, artillery, and tank gun systems), but above any weapon, I would always choose the sword. The sword is called the gentleman of all weapons. It is in fact the weapon of justice. It was known as that until it was used more for evil deeds. Swords and practically all melee weapons are now considered "obsolete" because of the innovation of guns. Certainly, guns had an advantage at one time, being able to penetrate any armor (thus the reason you won't be seeing knights walking around anymore). But now there is armor to defend against the guns, making that advantage null and void. The sword can cut straight through the armor protecting you from bullets. The sword can kill silently. The sword will never run out of ammo. The sword can swung from horseback, or more recently, from a motorcycle. The sword is not by any means obsolete, and I'll talk more to anyone who doesn't buy it. This thread isn't just about swords of course, but all weapons. What's your favorite weapon type and why?

Swords are wicked man...I love 'em. To me, they're way better than guns will ever be, but that's just me.
However, my fav weapon would prolly be...
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhm....
My guitar? LOL. ME AXE OF DEATH AN' DESTRUCTION!
No really, I actually like real axes, with the blade an' shit, used a lot by executioners (I think...).
I also really like the scythe, because it's just awesome...the way the blade is shaped and everything...and it's also, like, Death's weapon, ya know? That's sweet. Into The Void - Black Sabbath

What kinda axe is your favorite? Hatchets? Fire Axes? Battle Axes? Tomahawks? War Axes? If I choose outta those....I dunno......hard to pick one....between battle axes, war axes, and tomahawks. Also I believe the Germans had some sort of throwing axe, (or hammer?) possibly derived from the legendary descriptions of how Thor threw Mjolnir. I could be mistaken though, it's not a weapon I'm familiar with.

the long bow for me is the ideal weapon. it has precision and accuracy. even on a horse while riding, you can hit your target. the long bow has been used by many cultures for many ages.

To the Gypsy: A fire axe is the axe used to bust doors down in fire emergencies. I think some buildings have them in those little "break in case of emergency" glass containers things. But they mostly used by firemen and murderers.
To Regina: My second fave! The bow and arrow! Short bows, long bows, and my personal favorite the compound bow are all wonderously accurate weapons in the hands of a skilled archerm and can indeed be fired from horseback. Good knowledge, Reggie! This weapon, like the sword is highly underestimated. But it can kill from long ranges, is quieter than any silenced gun could ever hope to be, and unlike bullets your arrows can be retrieved from your fallen foes to be used again.

i agree with you stalker. i think that the staff is also i very lethal weapon. it has great reach too and can knock other weapons out of your hand. its even better if you have more than one of them.

Problem with using more than one staff is how unwieldy just one staff is. Using a staff with one hand can be very hopeless, depending entirely of course on what kind of staff you're using. I would say most staves are entirely limited to being two handed weapons that can't be dual-wielded. The only possible exception I can think of here would maybe be a Jo Staff, 4 feet in length. While some maneuvers in this weapon's conventional fighting style are single-handed, it is largely two-handed in technique. But if any staff offered dual-staff capability, I'd say it's that one. The true advantage of staves is in their length, as well as spears, halberds, pole axes, and other shafted weapons of the sort. It allows one to keep more distance from their opponents than any other melee weapon can.
